Integrated Clinic for Chronic Skin Diseases

The Institute of Applied Dermatology carries an integrated dermatology clinic. In this clinic patients are examined separately by dermatologist, Ayurveda doctor and homoeopathist. Ladies are examined by a lady dermatologist as one needs to examine skin as an organ.  Initially all patients will receive counseling regarding our treatment methodologies in the back ground of previous experience. Willing patients would further undergo evaluation. Evaluation and initiation to the treatment process require at least 6 hours.

At present we offer integrated therapy to following diseases

Lichen planusCutaneous form of lichen planus is an intensely itchy skin disease that by and large leaves pigmented post-treatment scars on the skin. Many drugs are listed in literature but comparative studies are rare. Although usually recommended first-line treatment is systemic or topical corticosteroids the Cochrane skin group has found no evidence of efficacy for its use. In the IAD study, supported by Kerala State council for science, technology and environment, patients with cutaneous lichen planus were effectively and safely treated using ayurvedic medications. These patients had associated diabetes mellitus and hypertension. In general lichen planus patients if associated with diabetes and hypertension suffer many months due to itching as they keep using only topical steroids because systemic steroid are contraindicated for their associated diseases. What the IAD study identifies is probably a new treatment, safe and at low cost particularly for lichen planus patients complicated by other diseases.
